LED Skincare Routine at Home

Building a Complete LED Skincare Routine at Home

A full walkthrough of building an LED skincare routine - the right order for cleansing, LED sessions, and skincare products, how to combine a face mask, neck mask, and acne patch without overcomplicating things, and a sample weekly schedule.

If you've picked up more than one LED device - maybe a face mask and an acne patch, or all three VivaGlam products - it's genuinely not obvious how they're supposed to fit together into an actual daily or weekly routine without turning into a confusing juggling act. So let's build one that actually works in real life.

The order that actually makes sense

  1. Cleanse first, always. Every LED session needs bare, clean skin to work properly - makeup, sunscreen, and product residue all reduce how well light reaches your skin.
  2. LED face mask session (if using one that day). 15 minutes, on your chosen mode. This comes before any serums or moisturiser, not after.
  3. Targeted acne patches (on individual active spots). Apply after your face mask session, directly on any active pimples that need spot treatment. These can be left on for several hours or overnight, so they don't need to be removed before the rest of your routine.
  4. Serums. Whatever you're using - vitamin C in the morning, retinol or niacinamide in the evening - goes on after the LED session, when your skin's cellular activity is elevated, and product absorption tends to be more effective.
  5. Moisturiser, then SPF if it's morning. Always the last step, and SPF is non-negotiable if you've just done an LED session and are heading outside.

Where the neck mask fits in

If you're also using the VivaGlam Photon LED Neck Therapy Mask, it doesn't need to happen in the same session as your face mask - in fact, doing both back-to-back can make for a fairly long routine. A reasonable split is face mask sessions on alternating days from neck mask sessions, or simply doing both in the same sitting if you have the 30 minutes to spare and prefer consolidating your routine into fewer days.

This gives each device 3 sessions a week without stacking them on the same day, every day - which keeps the routine sustainable rather than something you burn out on after two weeks.

Common mistakes when combining LED devices

Doing every device every day. More frequency doesn't mean more results, and it makes the routine unsustainable long-term, which is worse than doing less but consistently.

Skipping cleansing between steps. If you're doing a face mask session and then immediately want to do a neck session, you don't need to re-cleanse in between if it's the same sitting - but always cleanse before the first LED session of the day.

Forgetting SPF after morning sessions. LED therapy increases cellular activity, and heading into UV exposure without protection afterward undermines a chunk of what the session was meant to achieve.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes - they can be used on the same day or on alternating days, depending on how much time you want to spend on your routine. Alternating days (face mask 3x/week, neck mask 3x/week on different days) tends to be more sustainable than doing both daily.
Cleanse first, then do your LED session (face or neck mask) on bare skin, then apply targeted spot treatments like acne patches, then serums, then moisturiser, and SPF if it's a morning routine. LED therapy always comes before other skincare products, not after.
No - acne light therapy patches are designed for extended wear, including overnight, so they don't need to be removed to continue the rest of your routine. Just avoid applying other products directly on top of the patch itself.
Beyond 5 sessions per device per week generally doesn't add meaningful benefit and can occasionally cause mild sensitivity. Spreading 3-5 sessions per device across the week, rather than stacking multiple devices daily, tends to be the most sustainable approach.
